About Vitafol®

Yes, there is currently a discount/coupon/copay card for Vitafol®. Please visit vitafol.com to download a universal coupon for all Vitafol® prenatal vitamins. You should present the coupon/copay card at the pharmacy. In order to redeem this card you must have a valid prescription for Vitafol®. The patient is responsible for the first $25 of their co-pay and cash-paying patients should pay approximately $65*.  Card is good for refills. If out-of-pocket cost on the 90-day fill is above $60, ask your pharmacist to process a 30-day fill instead. Cardholders with questions, please call 1-855-881-3090.
Patients with Medicare, Medicaid, a state pharmaceutical assistance program, or any other federal or state health care program cannot use the card due to federal legislation.  

  • Vitafol® Ultra, Vitafol® Fe+, or Vitafol® Gummies should not be used by patients who have an allergy to any of its components or color additives.  
    • Folic acid should not be taken by patients with untreated and uncomplicated anemias and by those who have an allergy to folic acid.
    • Iron therapy should not be taken by patients with hemochromatosis (iron overload disease) and iron storage disease or the potential for iron storage disease due to certain chronic anemias or liver cirrhosis.
    • Cyanocobalamin should not be taken by patients with an allergy to cobalt or cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12).

Reported adverse events of Vitafol® prenatal vitamins include skin ailments, gastrointestinal complaints, glucose abnormalities, and visual problems.

Folate is a general term for a group of water soluble B-vitamins, also known as Vitamin B9. Vitafol® Ultra and Vitafol Fe+® contains two sources of folate – folic acid and L-methylfolate calcium. Folic acid is a synthetic compound used in dietary supplements and food fortification. L-methylfolate calcium is a biologically active form of folate naturally found in food.

Vitafol® Product/Ingredients

Vitafol® Ultra:

Vitafol® Ultra contains 16 essential vitamins and nutrients. It contains folate as folic acid and Metafolin® (L-methylfolate). For a full list of active and inactive ingredients please view the Vitafol® Ultra Supplemental Facts.

The gelatin is from a bovine source (from cow bone and skin).

Yes, Vitafol® Ultra does not contain gluten or any ingredients derived from gluten containing grains.*

No, Vitafol® Ultra does not contain any ingredients derived from pork.

 

Yes, Vitafol® Ultra contains soybean oil (highly refined).

No, Vitafol® Ultra does not contain peanuts or any ingredients derived from peanuts.* 

Yes, the Vitamin C, Sorbitol, and Riboflavin in Vitafol® Ultra are derived from corn.

The B12 in Vitafol® Ultra is cyanocobalamin, one of the synthetic forms of B12.

VITAFOL® Fe+:

Vitafol Fe+® contains 16 essential vitamins and nutrients. It is powered with extra iron (90 mg) for those who may need it during pregnancy. For a full list of active and inactive ingredients please view the Vitafol Fe+® Supplemental Facts.

Dr. Lynn Buchanan is a family medicine physician who has years of experience in conventional and integrative medicine. She was born and raised in the inner city of Paterson, NJ. After growing up poor and quitting high school, Dr. Buchanan worked in a hospital as a pharmacy tech. There, the oncologist pushed her to attend college. She went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from William Paterson University. Then, she attended the UMDNJ School of Osteopathic Medicine and Nova Southeastern COM. Dr. Leah Roberts is a board-certified physician who specializes in Emergency Medicine. Prior to medical school, she practiced as a personal trainer and nutritionist. Dr. Roberts completed her Emergency Medicine residency at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in Camden, NJ. She earned her Doctorate of Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine and M.S.
